Rock Art 3D Modelling

Rock Art 3D Modelling

written by Brian Cosgrove

I have had quite a bit of interest in my experiments in digital archaeology. Thnks to everyone who has contacted me as a result of my posts on the Kirknewton site.

I have turned my attention for a moment to the rock art on the Main Rock at Lordenshaws hillfort not far from Rothbury. Find, on the link below, a digital model I have created of the entire rock, with its intriguing Neolithic designs, plus a link to my digital model of the exposed Bronze Age burial cist, also to be found on the site.

Visualising the Ad Gefrin site

Visualising the Ad Gefrin site

written by Brian Cosgrove

I created this animation as it is difficult to imagine or visualise the scale and extent of the Anglo Saxon buildings on the Ad Gefrin site. Using an adaptation of Brian Hope-Taylor's original excavation drawings and the 2006 Gefrin Trust survey image, combined with Google Earth topology, we are finally able to see the building footprints in relation to the modern landscape.

The 2006 survey image shows details and hints of buildings to the south of the Akeld to Kirknewton road (including the Yeavering henge).

It is also worth noting that at least two buildings recorded by Hope-Taylor have since been lost to the quarry which once occupied the south western area of the site.

Milfield Henge Animation

Milfield Henge Animation

written by Brian Cosgrove

A short animation based on the Milfield North henge layout. The postholes are accurate to the excavation diagrams.

I created the model, terrain and textures in seperate applications and combined them in the animation render with a little post production tweaking in the final composite render.
