Help this disabled athlete compete Internationally to aid his development & progression to help him reach his ultimate goal of GB Boccia.
My name is Harry Thompson, I am 21 years old and I live with a severe, progressive muscle wasting condition, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
I am a full time wheelchair user and I play the Paralympic sport of Boccia (pronounced Bot-cha), a strategic target sport likened to French boules or pétanque.
Boccia is played on a badminton sized court, it can be played in individual matches, pairs or teams and is played in specific classification groups according to severity of disability. I am a BC4, a non cerebral palsy thrower. Most athletes of my age within my condition, use an assistive device to propel balls onto court (a ramp) and play within the BC3 classification
The fact I still have the ability to throw competitvely is something I am very proud of and its atributed to many things, my determination in life and sport and my commitment to Boccia, the 20 hours a week on court training I dedicate myself to, and my ambition to reach my goal of GB Boccia.
I first started playing Boccia 7 years ago, when I was a keen powerchair footballer, the Sports Academy where my team trained had a Boccia Club which I joined, 3 months later I won my 1st National Boccia Championship. Even though I was self funding throughout, I spent 4 years on the England Boccia Squad, before making the decision to step off the squad and to become an independent athlete to increase my International competitive opportunties, a requirement to ensure my development and progression in the sport. To date I am twice English National BC4 Champion, 4 times DSE/Boccia England Open Champion and have medalled at the last 3 Internationals I have attended.

The aim ?
My aim is clear, to progress in the sport of Boccia and to compete at as many International competitions that I can, that I am eligible to enter. Without competing Internationally I will not be able to develop adequately and progress. It is at these International competitions where I can gain the most experience, but they of course come with a price. This includes, travel, accomodation and entry fees and any equipment and kit I may require.
